wow, your description of the plot makes me actually want to see this total lunacy! I agree with your thoughts on the whole "imprinting" thing, that is where the books totally lost me, I was already questioning Bella and her weak non-character... but Jacob and his puppy love for Nessie, is what catapulted the whole thing into the realm of down right WRONGNESS! Great review, I'll have to sneak into a theater to see this insanity (because I don't want to actually pay!).

Why does M. Night Shyamalan keep making movies? I'll answer your question since no one else has.

1) His movies make MILLIONS:

Signs: budget = $72 million, gross = $408 million.
The Village: budget = $60 million, gross = $256 million.
The Happening, budget = $48 million, gross = $163 million.
The Last Airbender, budget = $150 million, gross = $319 million.

Got the idea? And if you did your research you would know he did not direct "Devil" he just wrote it, but if you want to go there, it's budget was $10 million, and made $62 million.

2) He has an audience, a rather large group of fans who enjoy his movies
and like his work. The studios know this, which is why they finance his
movies. Same with Tarantino. Not everyone likes his movies, but he has a
huge audience and he makes millions. If it's not your cup of tea, don't
drink it. I'm not into Monty Python, but that doesn't mean I hate it,
nor do I hate the writers. Instead I respect it because it has an
audience and it makes people laugh.

3) What else can I say, except haters gonna hate!

I DO NOT see what allll the hype is about!!!!!!!!! It's rediculesly (?) stupid and they are 20 year olds??? REALLY ??!!! Would have been more credible if they were in their 30's or even 40's--- all I kept thinking about was my 21 year old daughter and was more morified than anything else!!!!!!!!

I wasn't old enough to see 'Showgirls' in the theatres but I am going to assume it did better on DVD (or VHS) than it did at the box office. I think the same will be true for 'Magic Mike.' I don't think the viewing audience is going in with the expectations of good acting or even storyline. Their goal is to check out half naked dudes gyrating on purpose to intentionally tickle their nether regions. As long as there are enough 'dance' scenes, I am sure the viewing audience (which I will assume will be 90% plus heterosexual women) will go home satisfied (pun intended) . You are a media critic so I appreciate your objectivity but I think you can't evaluate this movie as youwould your typical date night/weekend/family movie.

Tony Kornheiser (of ESPN) had similar thoughts when he saw a screening a
few days ago. I am on the fence about seeing it but I am definitely
intrigued by a storyline that is closer to the intent of the Brothers
Grimm versus the much tamer rewrites we are more accustomed to reading.
Also, from your review it seems like the commercial previews are a
pretty accurate portrayal of the movie. There are incredible CGI scenes
and no one character dominates.

Does anyone think Roberts acting was so much more superior to the other actors in the movie. He is great but they all were, the movie would have worked with whomever.

I'm 100% with you on this one. Unless Book #2 begins with Ana calling 911 and then the next two books are about her journey through the judicial system, I see no redeeming qualities in this series.

As young adult novels go, this one was done really well. Yes, we have all seen a futuristic gladiator type movies, (ala Rollerball), but I admire their use of the reality TV genre. We forget that reality TV competitions, (Survivor, AmazingRace, etc), are what a whole generation of young people are raised on now. In my day it was sitcoms and variety shows. Often the cast of such reality shows are just characters to the viewing audience, rather than "real people". That said, this futuristic movie holds some realism that I couldn't ignore.Well done and I will see it again.

Yes! I thought this film was a lot of fun and should be seen by all Farrell fans. My only criticism is that they tried a little to hard to make it look like a bad film. The film bleeps and missing reels were a bit much and I think took away from the film. How much funnier would this movie have been if they played it strait?
